In November of 2020, the voters approved a six-year General Obligation Bond. The bond was for the purchase of a new primary fire engine and equipment for the fire engine. The measure passed with 77% voter approval of the bond. The taxpayer will pay $0.24 per $1,000 assessed valuation of your home for the next six-years.
The money collected from the general obligation bond will pay for half of the purchase of the new primary fire engine. The other half is coming from the fire districts reserve fund account. The fire district knew the time would come where it would need to purchase a new primary fire engine as our current primary fire engine, is 22-years old. A normal life span is 15-20 years. The district has been setting money aside each year to help with the purchase of the new primary fire engine.
In late January 2021, the Board of Commissioners of Mason County Fire District #11 approved the purchase contract with Hughes Fire Equipment for a Pierce Saber Fire Engine. The new primary fire engine is expected to take about 12-14 months to build. We will keep you updated on its status and will post pictures here of the progression.
We want to thank the community for their support and trust in us and looking forward to having a new primary fire engine to serve the citizens of Island Lake Fire!
